The Hardie Family

I was recently inclined to start looking into some of the information on Martha Bowie Brownlie Hardie, who is buried in Hurdville Cemetery in Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada.

She was born in Scotland to James and Jane (maiden name possibly Bowie) Brownlie and married Alexander Hardie on August 6th 1879 in Parry Sound, Ontario. She died on January 24th 1938 in Hurdville, Ontario.

They had 13 known children, which included*:

James Hardie, born September 18th 1880 in McKellar, Parry Sound, Ontario.

William Hardie, born December 2nd 1881 in McKellar who he married Esther Annie Phillips (daughter of Charles Wesley Phillips and Susan Whales) on May 19th 1915 in Hurdville, Ontario.

John Hardie, born October 6th 1883 in McKellar, Ontario.

Alexander Hardie, born January 14th 1887 who died in 1926 in Biscotasing, Sudbury, Ontario, and was single at the time of his death. The date of death was unknown and the cause of death was unknown, with the doctor noting that "no marks of violence apparent". He was described as having "lived alone in shack four miles from Biscotasing and had been lying there presumably several days when found by Indians". His brother was the informant and he was buried on June 24th 1926.

Andrew Hardie, born April 26th 1888 in McKellar, Ontario.

George Hardie, born August 22nd 1889 in McKellar, Ontario.

Jessie Hardie, born February 13th 1891 who married Earl William Jones (son of Willis Jones and Emily Moore) on June 8th 1921 in Parry Sound, Ontario.

Mary Hardie, born May 28th 1894 in McKellar who married Arthur James Alexander (son of George Alexander and Esther Floyd Wooster) on June 3rd of 1919 in Hurdville, Ontario.

Robert Hardie, born November 19th 1895 in McKellar, Ontario.

Walter Hardie, born in August 1898.

Annie Hardie, born November 22nd 1899 in McKellar, Ontario.

Charles Hardie, born June 10th 1901 in McKellar, Ontario.

Frank Hardie, born October 13th 1904 who married Florence Rose Phillips (daughter of Charles Wesley Phillips and Susan Whales) on June 16th 1926 in Parry Sound, Ontario.

*Note: The birth records say they were born in McKellar. Some sources say all the children were born in Scotland. I believe this is an error. They are of Scottish origin, born in McKellar, Ontario.

The Bowerman Family

My research on this family began after viewing some photographs my mum took when she went to a cemetery in Prince Edward County. I had no idea which cemetery, but upon searching on the internet, I found out that it was the Bowerman Hill Cemetery in Hallowell, Prince Edward County, and so my search on the Bowerman family began!                                    Stephen & Elizabeth Bowerman Stephen Job Bowerman was born December 31st of 1848 to Gideon Hughes Bowerman and Mary S Christy. He had two known younger brothers, Albert Claude  (born 1850, married Lillian Thorn after Ida E Bedell), and James (born 1852, married Charlotte Jane and later Melvina). Stephen  married Elizabeth Lucas on September 20th of 1869, and they had five known children. He is buried in Bowerman Hill Cemetery in Hallowell. Elizabeth Lucas  was born November 21st, 1850 in Belleville, Hastings County, to Miles Lucas (1824-1903)   and Olive Bowerman (1823-1901, dau. of John and Mary) . She died August 2

The Jamestown Masonic Cemetery

When I was in Jamestown, Tuolumne County, California, I decided to go visit the Jamestown Masonic Cemetery located on Jamestown road and easily accessible from Golden Chain Highway 49. I noticed that there are quite a lot of masonic cemeteries and gravestones in and around the Jamestown area.  Jamestown is technically a ghost town from the days of the California Gold Rush, although it does have a small population these days. The Teeft Family

I was working on sorting some photos I had taken last year, when I started trying to figure out who some of the people were. This tends to happen easily....and so, another post shall be written. This post begins in Diltz Road Cemetery in Attercliffe Station in Haldimand, Ontario, Canada. There are many names there such as Dolan, Teeft, and Houser, and all three are involved in today's post. There is certainly more work to be done on this, but I figured I would write up this post and add to it as I research more, since it can get overwhelming to do it all at once.                                        James Alfred Teeft & Elizabeth Jane Putman James Alfred Teeft was born May 9th of 1843 and died October 13th of 1922. He died of Bronchitis, and the contributory factor in his death was that he had Broncho Pneumonia. It is unknown when, but he married Elizabeth Jane Putman who was born October 21st, 1843, and died December 12th, 1912. They had four known children. John Wesle
